You know the saying about America, "Everybody here is from someplace else?" Well, that's kind of how my Independence Day was at the beach. My best 4th of July's have been spent in Savannah at Tybee Island with people from other countries (Iran, India, Haiti, Singapore, Korea, China, Taiwan and Texas). This year my ex-roomie from last summer, and my new friends from my interior design classes met up with Kat and Don (my friends and housemates) and their crew at the beach for an evening of fun and fireworks. We packed at picnic of fried chicken and chips then headed to the shore. Ghazal immediately went straight into the ocean, fully clothed, and spent at least an hour wave jumping. At times we weren't sure if she was drowning or waving to us, but we gave her the benefit of the doubt and didn't go all Baywatch on her ass running into the ocean to save her. Of course, if we really thought she was sinking to the deep abyss, we would have gone in for her. After all, we had a group presentation the next day and the drawings we needed to finish were saved on her network storage at school. The evening wrapped up with a big fireworks show being set off from the pier a few hundred yards away. We had a great view--- close enough to feel the reverberating BANG! of when the fireworks were set off. Next Year I just need to remember to bring an endless supply of matches for our sparker lighting. We tried our best to get a group picture with all of us waving sparklers, but we were too busy putting on a show just trying to get the sparklers lit to care about getting everyone a sparkling sparkler at the same time.
