It's 9pm on a Saturday night of the first week of school and where am I at? Working in Eichburg Hall's computer lab, of course! I got loaded down with homework this week and have about 30-40 pages of article reviews to type by Monday. Seriously. As I was searching for articles to review this evening I ran across this one that, even though I shouldn't be surprised by it, blew me away. As I said about the job fair, SCAD students are given the absolute best opportunities. The best companies in the business come here scouting for talented future employees. The fact that a major retailer had paired with SCAD (I'm sure this is not the first time--- just the latest) to sell student-made products is just absolutely amazing to me. A-freaking-mazing.
On another note--- I saw a friendly face from home today. I sneaked into the Vernacular Architecture Symposium at the Hilton this afternoon to see if I could find Dr. Michael Ann Williams, the Dept. Head of Folkstudies and Anthropology at WKU. The Symposium is an annual SCAD event that features paper presentations from leading researchers from around the world presenting their findings about vernacular architecture. Just as I was poking my head around the corner to see if she was in the ballroom, she rounded the corner and came crashing into me. I was greeted with a big hug and an invitation to sit in on her presentation. It was very interesting. While I was in Folk school she received a grant to study Cherokee buildings in the Appalachians. That's what her presentation was on. I had no idea that Cherokee Indians built log cabins in the mountains and actually taught the English settlers techniques for hewn log construction. What I liked most about her presentation was that she gave life to it rather than just reading a dissertation piece. Golf claps to Dr. Williams

I've had to do actual work--- no time for spying! Nothing good is hanging around the building yet. I'm going to a Gallery Hop on Friday night (a trolley takes us around to all the SCAD galleries for their openings). The ID gallery is featuring sustainable design projects. I'm excited about seeing those.
